Here’s the plot:
Teased about his nose as a child, Rudolph runs away from Santa’s village and makes new friends along the way: Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the prospector. They run into the Abominable Snowman and find a whole island of misfit toys. Rudoph vows to see if he can get Santa to help the toys, and he goes back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. But Santa’s sleigh is fogged in. But when Santa looks over Rudolph, he gets a very bright idea…

This breakthrough claymation classic is essential for any child’s Christmas experience (and that of adults who grew up watching the much-anticipated holiday special on TV). That’s why this ranks as a definite “must-see” by any standard. But undoubtedly, we all owe a special thanks to J.C. Penny, the giant retail chain that created Rudolph as part of a promotional gimmick one fabled Christmas season many decades ago. Because it just wouldn’t be Christmas without Rudolph.

When you see it prepare to smile and have a really good time. This ranks extremely high under the classic christmas TV specials like A Charlie Brown Christmas and How The Grinch Stole Christmas which I will cover in later articles. In its initial broadcast, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer reached 55 percent of the TV audience. In 1995 it garnered a 65 per cent share, making it highest-rated animated program for the whole year.

As I sidenote I heard that the New York NBC studio tour still shows the original figurines. How I’d love to go there one day and see them for real!
